They passed away holding hands.
Dries van Agt was Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1977 to 1982 and led the Christian Democratic Appeal party. Then the politician retired and lived in retirement with his wife. She was ill, and van Agt suffered a stroke in 2018, from which he never recovered.
This couple lived together for 70 long years.

And on such a date they wanted to go to the next world together too. And they took advantage of couple euthanasia - they died holding hands.
The Netherlands allowed euthanasia in 2002. At first, only terminally ill people used the “Service”, then older married couples joined in. For example, in 2023, 30 married couples took advantage of the “couple euthanasia” option.
The ex-prime minister became the first Dutch rich man and politician to agree to such a procedure. At the moment, euthanasia is legalized in Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain and the USA (only in 9 states).
