Stupid bans in different schools (9 photos + 1 video)

4 February 2024

When a child enters first grade, a completely different life begins. Over the course of ten years, he not only gains knowledge, but also learns to socialize, finds friends, discovers some talents, and so on.

A schoolchild goes through many situations that he needs to learn to cope with: possible bullying, first love, criticism from strangers, competition, the ability to exist within certain limits. Usually school rules are quite universal, but some have special laws that seem quite strange.

Red pen

We all know when a teacher hands out notebooks with homework that has been checked and corrects mistakes there with a red pen. And already from afar the number of marks was visible.

The more red there was on the sheet, the more stressed the students were. In order not to irritate children once again, many countries around the world have decided to abandon grading in red ink.

No best friends

In England, there is a private boarding school (tuition there costs 14 thousand dollars per semester), which, in 2014, introduced a strict ban: students cannot have best friends.

The school management noted that having just friends is not prohibited, but if someone gets too close, it is not. The principal explained that the fact that someone has a best friend can affect other students and make them feel isolated. But for some reason this ban only affected girls.

There is a question, how will head teachers determine when girls just communicate well, and when they have become good friends? Well, secondly: many people find friends for life during their school years. Yes, often the paths of best school friends diverge after graduation, but not everyone does.

Slang expressions

In a German school, students were prohibited from saying words like “bro,” “afterparty,” “in kind,” and other similar words and expressions. Moreover, the ban applied not only to being at school, but also to students’ social networks. By the way, a similar rule applies to a number of English schools.

The school explained this by saying that in the future the students will need the ability to speak correctly - for example, when they get a job.

The idea seems to be not bad, but, in my opinion, at all times the speech of schoolchildren was filled with a number of “code” words and definitions, from which most former schoolchildren grew up and coped well with finding employment.

No heels

In Italy, in one of the high schools, it was forbidden to wear high-heeled shoes. And the point is not at all about any conservatism of the head teachers and the director or concern about the health of the students.

The city of Avezzano, where the school is located, is in a seismic risk zone. In 1915, it was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake, and 33 thousand people died from it that year. And heels, it is believed, can interfere with emergency evacuation.

A number of teachers and almost all school students believe that this is too much and if an earthquake occurs, then high heels are unlikely to somehow interfere with quickly running to shelter.

In the end, if you really have to, you can take them off.

Meep

In the show "The Muppets" there is a character named Becker who always said the word "meep". Children from a Massachusetts school agreed on a social network that at every lesson they would talk about this word in chorus.

But the plan was discovered and all parents were simultaneously notified that it was forbidden to say “meep” at school. Anyone caught doing something “forbidden” will be suspended from classes. Some schoolchildren did not believe that the threat was real and continued to say the cherished word. It all ended sadly: they were expelled.

It's a very harsh punishment, don't you think? Moreover, the children’s fuse would hardly have lasted more than two days and they would have switched to something else.

Red color - no road

In schoololu. Again, an English school, where one day they forbade wearing anything red. The director of the educational institution argued that this color has a bad effect on the psyche of students and they become hyperactive.

But the official color of the school was exactly this color and much of it, from bags to symbols, was bright red. Therefore, the ban was delusional, because if the students did not dress in this “irritating” color, then there was still plenty of it around them and it continued to have a bad effect on behavior.

Dancing

Or rather grinding and twerking. Twerking is no longer as fashionable as it was a few years ago, but grinding is just becoming known outside of Canada and the USA.

At a Cuban high school, a video of students twerking went viral online and shocked many. The school management decided to ban any dancing at all, even if it was the “dance of the little ducklings.”

It’s strange, of course, to try to ban dancing in a country where people dance everywhere.

Triangular pies

In one school canteen in England, children were offered triangular oatmeal pies as a dessert. During lunch, the students got naughty and one threw such a pie at the other and hit the enemy in the eye. The situation did not lead to serious injuries, the boy escaped with a minor bruise, and the director decided, just in case, to ban triangular pies altogether.

Most likely, to avoid a repeat of the situation, which could already lead to more serious injuries and legal costs.

I suspect that it is quite difficult to kill a person with a pie, and then maybe it would be worth starting with cutlery and plates, which can really be used to seriously injure someone if desired?

Don't fight

A number of American public schools have a “zero tolerance” policy for bullying and fighting. Because of this policy, it is believed that if a physical conflict occurs, even if it is self-defense, both the aggressor and the victim will be punished equally.

Resolving conflicts by force is bad, we all know that. But we also know that children are often not the smartest, they are aggressors and they are tormented by bullying. And if, day after day, a child is subjected to insults, taunts, bullying, pokes and shoves, then he can explode and fight back. And how can you blame him for this?
