Tragedy at a railway crossing in Uzbekistan

In Surkhandarya, Uzbekistan, a motorist ignored a traffic light and caused a fatal accident at a railway crossing. The incident occurred on January 31 between Shurchi and Elbayon stations. The 35-year-old driver of a Daewoo Gentra was passing a railway crossing at a prohibitory traffic light and was hit by the Sariasia - Tashkent train.

There was a family of seven people in the car; the 35-year-old driver and his two-year-old child managed to survive; they are in the hospital with various injuries. The driver's 64-year-old mother, his 29-year-old wife and three other minor children died at the scene.
