The owner saw “grains” on the bed that the cat left (5 photos)
The girl turned to the forum for help after seeing strange “grains” on the bed, similar to sesame seeds. It turned out that these things were left behind by her cat - and alas, these are far from sesame seeds.
The girl discovered mysterious grains on her bed that looked like sesame seeds. She had no idea what these things were and decided to turn to social media for help.
"I keep finding these sesame seed sized things on my bed. Anyone know where they come from? I've been seeing them for the last couple of weeks. I have two cats and I suspect they have something to do with this. Please help! " - the girl wrote on the forum.
Knowledgeable netizens quickly responded: these are worms coming out of the cat’s anus. More precisely, proglottids (individual segments) of the tapeworm Taenia taeniaeformis. These worms are often found in cats, and are transmitted to them by eating infected mice, rabbits, and so on. Proglottids look like seeds because they dry up when they come out of the cat.
The main definitive host of parasitic worms of this species is cats. In rare cases, dogs can also be the definitive hosts. Intermediate hosts are rodents, less commonly lagomorphs. The girl was advised to urgently take the cat to the veterinarian so that she could be prescribed treatment for parasites. Tapeworm infections can be successfully treated with antiparasitic medications—but sometimes surgery is required to remove the cyst.
