A trailer containing circus animals caught fire on a highway in the US state of Indiana. This happened at about two o'clock in the morning, but fortunately, the frightened animals were saved. Local police quickly responded to the incident: law enforcement officers rescued five zebras, four camels and a miniature horse, taking them out of the smoking trailer. No animals were harmed, and they were calmly escorted to the side of the road. However, two policemen were injured.
Two officers were treated for smoke inhalation - but were later released safely. After the incident, the animals were moved to another trailer and continued on their way. During the rescue, the animals behaved quite calmly, although at first they were scared of the fire. As seen in footage from the scene, some horses were quietly eating grass on the side of the road, waiting to be rescued.
All the animals were transported from Florida to Fort Wayne to participate in four weeks of charity circus performances. They are held for the Mizpah Shrine Circus and raise funds for the treatment of children.
