These Lottery Winners Are Incredibly Stupid (8 Photos)

Many people dream deep down of their hearts of winning the lottery. They regularly buy tickets, hoping to hit the biggest jackpot. And if they win, then sometimes they do incredibly stupid things. By the way, random fact: we are more likely to be struck by lightning than to win the lottery.

If you ask a person what he would do if he won a large sum, then we usually talk about investments, investments in health and real estate. But when the treasured sum appears in their hands, not everyone is able to cope with such responsibility and not lose their heads with happiness.

David Lee Edwards

Oh, why do they all love this golden chic so much?

Edwards spent several years behind bars after robbing a gas station. When he came out, he soon managed to win as much as $27 million in the lottery. It would seem, well, here it is, a chance to correct the mistakes of the past. But David chose to spend all his money over five years on exclusive cars, planes and drugs.

Edwards' daughter said that all the expensive things bought by her father were sold by him in order to buy substances and pay off debts. David died sick and alone.

Evelyn Adams

Luck clearly smiled on this woman - she managed to win the New Jersey lottery (in 2005 and 2006). The total amount of money she received was $5.4 million.

And by 2007, Evelyn didn’t have a penny left. First, she made a series of unsuccessful investments, then she gave her family very expensive gifts, and she spent most of the money in an Atlantic City casino.

Adams lives in a trailer and is broke. "Everyone wanted my money. Everyone stood there with their hand outstretched. I never learned the simple word 'no'. If I had a second chance, I would be smarter." It's kind of sad.

Denise Rossi

She won $1.3 million and didn't tell anyone, including her husband. After hiding her ticket, Denise filed for divorce, which came as a shock to her husband Thomas. Moreover, 25-year-old Denise wanted to get a divorce as soon as possible, and when the documents were signed, she sarcastically showed her ex-husband the ticket.

The lady, apparently, was not very smart and did not understand the law - she won while still married and $1.3 million turned out to be joint property. And the fact that she wanted to hide this income was very similar to fraud.

Thomas, offended by the behavior of his ex-wife, filed a lawsuit and received all the winnings. And Denise had to pay legal fees and taxes on the amount won.

Kate and Martin Tott

A married couple from England were watching television when the winning lottery numbers were shown. When they realized that they had hit the $5 million jackpot, their happiness knew no bounds. They didn't see a dollar of that amount.

Kate and Martin decided to cash out all their winnings, but couldn't find their ticket. They rushed to the lottery company's office to explain the situation, but despite the fact that the employees believed them, they could do nothing to help the Totts. Martin and Kay missed the 30-day deadline to report a lost winning ticket.

Later in an interview, Kate and Martin said that this whole situation almost led them to divorce, but they were able to cope with the loss of such a large amount of money.

Kelly Rogers

In 2003, a sixteen-year-old British woman won almost 2 million pounds in the national lottery.

It is worth admitting that it is pointless to expect the right actions from an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. As soon as Kelly received the money, she began to buy all the designer clothes that she had previously only dreamed of. Three hundred thousand were spent on updating the wardrobe. Rogers, who had a complex about her small breasts, gave another 12 thousand for surgery to enlarge them. And, of course, parties. She threw cool parties for her friends, gifted her friends and even acquaintances with all sorts of gadgets, handbags, and perfumes. There were also white tracks on the mirrors. Kelly spent a quarter of a million pounds on drugs.

Before all this, the girl lived quite modestly and with herfoster parents. Kelly had a boyfriend, but money ruined the relationship with him and they broke up. Pretty soon a new guy appeared, with whom Rogers gave birth to two children.

The money turned out to be not endless and began to run out. “Friends” began to drop out along with them. There were no more large-scale drinking sessions, just modest, inexpensive get-togethers, and in the end Rogers saw only 2 thousand pounds in her account.

“Friends” have long disappeared, the children’s father abandoned her, she quit her job a long time ago, and has two young children in her arms. It’s no wonder that Kelly plunged into terrible depression and tried to die three times.

But she was lucky to meet a guy who helped Kelly get out of this hole. The man works as a fireman, Kelly married him and gave birth to her third child. Rogers honestly admits that she regrets that wealth fell on her at a very young age.

Andrew Whittaker

In 2002, Andrew, who lives in rural West Virginia, won $315 million in the lottery. Whittaker owned a construction company, which, at that time, was not having the best of times and he wanted to bring his business back to life, return all the displaced workers to their jobs and do charity work.

After paying all the taxes, he received $114 million and had two options: receive the entire amount in full, or in parts over 25 years. He decided to take everything right away.

Endless petitioners began to swarm around him, and Andrew was so kind that he could not refuse anyone. He also gave a lot of money to the municipality and churches, and gave his granddaughters crazy amounts of pocket money every week.

One of the granddaughters eventually died from an overdose a few years later. The second died later, for an unknown reason. His wife left Whittaker, and the business completely collapsed. Andrew was buried in court summonses for fraud, rape and harassment, and the man's house was robbed several times. Andrew himself fell into a serious drug addiction and became an alcoholic.
