Vets warn that cramped carriers make pets stressed and vulnerable, and condemn Claudia Schiffer's decision to take her cat to a film premiere.

Claudia Schiffer attended the world premiere of the film "Argyle" with her cat Chip in a special "cat" backpack with a window.

The film was directed by Claudia's husband, Matthew Vaughn, and Chip was one of the actors in the film. From this point of view, there is some logic in his appearance on the red carpet. However, many are sure that the cat should not have been dragged into the spotlight and exposed to stress.

This is not the first time Schiffer has appeared in public with her cat. In November, she brought Chip to The Jonathan Ross Show and explained how he landed the role in his debut film.

“We had another cat in the film, but he’s not a very good actor. He was terrible. It was also very expensive,” she said. — My husband, Matthew, a director, asked if he could take my cat. “I said, ‘Why not, he can portray a house cat,’ and here we are.”

At the premiere, Chip looked very cute in a fashionable backpack. But experts explain why he was unlikely to be comfortable. Cats are very territorial animals and need freedom of movement. Therefore, placing them in a small and confined space and taking them out of the house into a new and unfamiliar environment is likely to cause them fear and anxiety.

Alison Richards, an animal activist from the organization Cats Protection, spoke about this. According to her, Claudia Schiffer's decision to take Chip to the premiere was "superfluous and unnecessary." The model chose hype over the well-being of her pet.

“Cats are living beings, not toys, and should not be used as fashion accessories. We strongly advise owners not to take their cats out in pet carriers like those shown in the film,” added Alison Richards.

It may seem that some cats do well in backpacks. However, movement on a person's back is unpredictable, and most carriers do not have enough ventilation or space for the cat, leaving her feeling cramped or uncomfortable.

The large porthole in the carrier also means that cats have no place to hide when they feel anxious, leaving them feeling exposed and vulnerable. Cats prefer to roam freely in familiar surroundings and thrive best when they have the opportunity to choose where to go and what to interact with. Experts do not advise taking them out of the house unless it is absolutely necessary, such as visiting a veterinarian.

In addition, according to animal rights activists, the decision to use a Scottish Fold cat in the film is generally extremely questionable.

All cats of this breed suffer from degenerative joint disease of varying severity, and the underlying genetic defect has far-reaching consequences for their health. Cats develop painful arthritis so reliably that they are used as a model to study a gene involved in the development of arthritis in humans.

The breed is already popular on social networks and among celebrities, and a film featuring the cute Scottish Fold could cause an even greater surge in popularity. As a result, people will get cats of this breed without realizing the burden of responsibility for them, and this cannot but cause concern.
