The fire started at 7 am on January 13th. 1,617 people were evacuated from the site, 136 firefighters and 32 pieces of equipment were used to extinguish the fire - the highest fifth rank.
It took a day and a half to extinguish the fire. Only on the afternoon of January 14 was it possible to eliminate the open burning. Firefighters are now watering all burning and smoldering structures. As a result of the fire, a 22-year-old girl was injured and was taken to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to Wildberries employees, the fire extinguishing system did not work when the fire began to spread on racks with household chemicals. As the fire engulfed most of the premises, fireworks stored in the warehouse began to explode inside the building. There is no information about casualties at this time. All employees were evacuated.
Investigators opened a criminal case under the article “Abuse of Power.” According to investigators, the building did not have permission to be put into operation. Investigators are now checking all documents.
This is all that remains of the huge warehouse.
Experts estimate the damage could exceed $120 million.
