Today I came across an article about the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile called “Sineva” and I remembered something about what our military engineers call their creations. So I decided to share what I remembered.

My favorite “white elephant” of Soviet tank construction, after the four-track tank Object 279 - 2B1 “Oka?” - Soviet self-propelled 420 mm mortar unit. Chief designer - B.I. Shavyrin. The first prototype was ready in 1957. Rate of fire - 1 shot per 5 minutes. Firing range - 25 km, active-reactive mine - 50 km. Mine weight - 670 kg. Designed for firing nuclear charges.

During the tests, a number of shortcomings were identified (the recoil of the gun was too high and had a negative impact on all components of the system), which did not allow the gun to be put into operation. A total of 4 prototypes were produced. Subsequently, the development of such bulky guns was abandoned in favor of cheaper and easier to operate tactical missile systems (such as the Luna).
