Doctor hit 82-year-old patient in the face three times during surgery (4 photos + 1 video)
A Chinese ophthalmologist punched an 82-year-old woman in the face three times while performing an operation, shocking video shows. The hospital management is conducting an investigation and the doctor has been suspended from work.
The incident took place in 2019 in Guigang, a city in southwest China, but just last week the video went viral, causing outrage online.
The footage shows a doctor hitting a woman in the face. Representatives of the medical institution claim that this happened because the patient did not stop moving during the operation.

The statement said the patient was an 82-year-old woman who "during surgery due to local anesthesia [...] became intolerant." Because the woman spoke only dialect and did not respond to the surgeon's warnings in Mandarin, the doctor "treated the patient rudely in an emergency situation."
The blows left the woman with bruises on her forehead, authorities said.
The hospital management apologized and paid the victim compensation in the amount of 500 yuan.
The patient's son told local news outlets that his mother was left blind in her left eye, although it is unclear whether this was related to the surgeon's actions.
Aier China, which owns the clinic, said staff did not report the incident to head office. On Thursday, the director of the clinic was fired, and the ophthalmologist was suspended from work.
The famous Chinese doctor Ai Feng posted a recording of the operation, and the video immediately became the leader in views on the Weibo social network.
Ai was among a group of doctors who warned the public about the Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan. She has more than 2 million followers on Weibo. The doctor has also been involved in legal disputes with Aier China. In 2021, she underwent surgery at one of the company’s clinics, after which, according to her, she was almost blind in one eye.
