An antiques lover got rich by buying an old house (5 photos + 1 video)

Alex Archbold from Canada bought the house of a woman who suffered from pathological hoarding. The dwelling itself became dilapidated due to many years of neglect and excessive collecting, but many valuable things were preserved in it.





Alex Archbold purchased a house in Edmonton, Canada after the previous owner passed away. Piano teacher Bette-Joan Rack died in November 2020 at the age of 76.



When Alex bought a house and all its contents for $10,000, he was faced with the task of returning the house to a livable condition and finding at least something of value. Then he had no idea how lucky he was.

Archbold posted his searches on the Curiosity Incorporated YouTube channel. At the beginning of the video, the Canadian explains: "The person who lived here really loved fashion, so there's a good chance some of these things are designer." He turned out to be right.

The new homeowner discovered a silver bar weighing almost 3kg, Tiffany diamond jewelry hidden in slippers, and, of course, a lot of designer clothes.





He quickly realized that he could make much more money on antiques than the $10,000 he spent on real estate.

"This is the best investment I've ever made," Archbold admitted.

At the first auction alone, he earned $250 thousand. And the entire collection could cost £385,000.



Alex said: "It's an urban legend story and I got to be the hero of it. It's crazy."

Angela Larson, owner of a vintage clothing store, bought several thousand items from Archbold.

She commented: "I was fascinated. The owner of these things loved fashion, and really good fashion. Most of the outfits were from the 50s, 60s, 70s, very beautiful things. She loved French products, hand-made tailoring and interesting fabrics."



Archbold said of Madame Rack: "If she were 40 years younger, she would have become a fashion blogger. But she would clearly prefer to devote herself to her students and be remembered for music."
