Gelendvagen convertible from the 1990s was valued more expensive than the new G-Class (35 photos)
The company Expedition Motor Co, which specializes in the restoration and tuning of SUVs, has put up for sale a restored Gelik from the 1990 model and modified for off-road parts. They are asking $185,200 for it - 45 thousand more than the new G-Class with a 4-liter V8 costs in the United States.
Working with the SUV, which served its time in the army and was decommissioned, came down to its total disassembly and restoration. The body was separated from the frame and completely “stripped”, and the engine and transmission were disassembled screw by screw.
The frame of the Gelik was sandblasted and coated with an anti-corrosion primer, the body panels were restored and repainted. As a result, the G-Class acquired its original light cream color with black inserts. For example, the arch extensions, snorkel, power bumper in the front and roll bar at the rear are made in contrast. Among the non-standard parts, one can also note massive side hinges, a footrest and diode optics. The interior was reupholstered in beige and black leather, and even the classic two-spoke steering wheel was trimmed with it. Wooden details are also visible in the decoration: the windshield blower nozzles, a niche with cup holders and the side panels in the rear of the cabin are purely craft products. The tuners also took care of comfort by adding heated seats not only in the front, but also in the rear.
The suspension has new shock absorbers and springs. All fuel and brake lines were re-routed, the brake mechanisms themselves were strengthened, the steering mechanism was restored using new spare parts. The tuners rebuilt the gearbox, axles and differentials, replacing various consumables and worn parts. The same was done with the 2.5-liter engine with the replacement of the piston group.
Thus, in the full sense of the word, this “Gelendvagen” cannot be called a restomod - by and large, EMC gave a second life to the “warrior”, meticulously putting the car in order and enhancing the off-road potential of the old man.
