2023 has seen a buzz on the red carpet, with film and music awards season, the Met Gala, fashion month and the return of glitzy Hollywood premieres following the actors' and writers' strike. Now that the year is coming to an end, it's time to remember which celebrities managed to create the most striking fashion looks. 
Of course, compiling a list of the best celebrity fashionistas of the year was not easy. To determine the final look, Vogue looked to those who stood out on the red carpet with their personality and weren't afraid to take risks.
1. Taylor Russell
Taylor Russell burst onto the fashion scene last year with the promotion of Full and Complete, and has continued to evolve her style in 2023 with a variety of sculptural, elegant, and progressive looks. Even though many of her winning red carpet looks came from Loewe—she's now a muse for designer Jonathan Anderson and the house—that doesn't mean her outfits were overly on-brand or lacking in personality. In fact, she and stylist Ryan Hastings managed to achieve the desired effect: she was always the center of attention in crystal dresses, black tailored suits and fringed maxi dresses.
2. Hunter Schaefer
Hunter Schafer, working with stylist Dara Allen, proved to be one of Hollywood's boldest fashionistas this year, unafraid to embrace bold prints and embellishments, metallic trims and skin-baring silhouettes. “Hunter and I wanted to push the boundaries of red carpet fashion,” Allen told Vogue in November during the Hunger Games press tour. Schaefer's best looks? There's the Marni floral dress made from recycled metallic flowers, the hand-painted Schiaparelli dress (for the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds premiere), and, of course, the gold foil Prada.
3. Yseult
French singer Yseult is no stranger to high fashion, having walked the runways for brands such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga. This year she also proved that she has the makings of a true red carpet star. “I love wearing clothes that make me feel strong and vulnerable at the same time,” the singer said of her style in an interview with Vogue earlier this year. Her 2023 fashion choices were certainly strong, as she walked red carpets and was photographed in front of press walls in fitted leather minidresses, streamlined tuxedos and elegant cape dresses.
4. Emma Corrin
If you think you need a snazzy dress to make it in Hollywood, think again, because Emma Corrin's whimsical approach to red carpet dressing is one of the year's biggest looks. “What's fun about working with Emma is that she takes risks,” Harry Lambert, Corrine's stylist, told Vogue last year. - She wants to have fun. She's excited about fashion and not afraid of it." In 2023, the star experimented with the most unexpected looks: from a tuxedo jacket paired with a sheer skirt to Miu Miu briefs paired with a button-down cardigan. No one has handled the "no pants" trend better.
5. Jacob Elordi
Between starring in Saltburn and Priscilla, Jacob Elordi has had quite a busy year cinematically and plenty of red carpet highlights. The actor has become one of the best-dressed men in Hollywood, combining classic tailoring with unexpected accents such as bow-tie blouses, short shorts and '70s-inspired wide-collared shirts. These fashionable ensembles strike the right balance of classic and modern, masculine and feminine. Plus, this man knows how to carry a bag correctly.
6. Rihanna
When Rihanna arrived hours late to the 2023 Met Gala, her white Valentino silk thread dress and floral cape made a splash. As usual, the star appeared on the red carpet, ready to create an unforgettable image. She and her stylist Jahil Weaver stayed on top of fashion throughout the year. Even as she's expecting her second child with rapper A$AP Rocky, the superstar has been rethinking what maternity style can look like (turns out, maternity clothes can be incredibly cool). In 2023, Rihanna has consistently turned heads with her outfits, from the red Loewe jumpsuit she wore to the Super Bowl to the black Alaïa bodycon dress she wore to the Oscars.
7. Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton has always marched to the beat of her own drum, and her approach to red carpet style in 2023 was the same. Working with her favorite stylist Jerry Stafford, the actress chose smart, structured looks that challenged the status quo. Did she pull off the oversized white Jean Paul Gaultier coat? Certainly. The man doesn't need the red carpet to shine, however: When he's not working, he attracts the attention of the paparazzi in a variety of outfits, from casual sweatshirts to dressy blazers, many of which are from his favorite brand, Bottega Veneta.
9. Lily Gladstone
Lily Gladstone, who starred in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, has become one of the main contenders for the 2024 award. The Native American actress used the red carpet to highlight contemporary Native American designers, such as showing off graphic dresses by Jamie Okuma and intricate jewelry by Jennifer Younger. There was no shortage of high-fashion glamor, either: Gladstone's stylist, Jason Rembert, dressed her in a slew of fresh looks from Louis Vuitton, Marni and Valentino. The Oscars are clearly just around the corner...
10. Kendall Jenner
Nowadays, no one ignites trends faster than Kendall Jenner, and this year the model has continued to pave the way for what's next in fashion. Jenner, who works with several stylists including Dani Michele and Marnie Senofonte, was seen rocking two of 2023's biggest trends—the no-pants trend and the wealth trend—long before they became mainstream. She also likes to put her own twist on trends: her Marc Jacobs bodysuit at the Met Gala, for example, was inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's archival swimsuits. Plus, no one had a better wardrobe of luxury coats this year than Jenner. The Row should send her a personalized thank you card for wearing the brand so often.
11. Jodie Turner-Smith
Few stars have as much fun with fashion as Jodie Turner-Smith. The actress treats the red carpet like a playground, donning colorful looks that range from playful (feathers! color! drama!) to ultra-sexy (the Viktor & Rolf no-pants look). While some stars adhere to a clear fashion direction, repeating other people's stylish finds, this woman is not afraid to experiment. You never know what she will show next time. Let's hope she continues to keep us on our toes in 2024.
12. Greta Lee
Past Lives star Greta Lee certainly dresses like a 2024 award contender. Lee, who works with stylist Danielle Goldberg, has developed her own signature red-carpet style that sees her rocking the year's best runway looks from brands like Loewe (she's friends with the house), Gucci and Ferragamo. Her fashion style? She favors the sculptural, opting for soft yet architectural silhouettes that flatter the body's shape. The images are restrained, but at the same time attract attention.
13. Maisie Williams
If Hollywood were to hand out a "Best Dressed" award for 2023, it would definitely go to Maisie Williams. The Game of Thrones star turned out to be one of the most interesting and unconventional fashionistas of the year, and this is good news. Her chameleon-like approach to style sees her wear everything from ethereal white Simone Rocha dresses to sleek Thom Browne suits and futuristic Iris van Herpen creations. With the release of Something to Give Each Other, singer Troye Sivan has been at his best this year - including on the red carpet. Sivan embraced the heartthrob status of Marc Forné, creating cutting-edge looks that were both very elegant and very sexy. In September, he took the internet by storm when he attended the Rabanne show in Paris wearing a denim tuxedo—the jacket was open to reveal his chest, which featured a crystal-embellished “bra.” Yes, a classic suit and tie is not for Sivan.
