In a Brazilian prison, dogs were replaced with more advanced guards (3 photos + 1 video)
The idea of using these birds is not new, as we all remember, they very successfully saved Rome from a sudden attack by the Gauls.
Geese patrolling the perimeter of a prison in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina have become a familiar sight. The birds have replaced guard dogs and now vigilantly guard prisoners. No criminal can escape unnoticed. Do you think this is a joke? If. The fact is that the prison administration, having calculated how long they had to maintain guard dogs, was horrified and began to look for a worthy replacement for them. The choice fell on geese.
In their free time between visits to the pond on the prison grounds, "geese agents" - birds - patrol the green area between the inner fence of the prison and its main outer wall. The geese's vigilance makes them excellent guard animals, even more effective than dogs, the staff said.
A small flock is led by a leader with the formidable nickname Piu-Piu. When officers call him by name, he makes a distinctive sound. Warden Souza stressed that keeping geese is more economical than keeping dogs, and the prison's location in a quiet area makes the use of birds a viable alternative for their establishment.
“It’s very quiet here at night. Even during the day, as you can see, it’s also very quiet, and at night it’s doubly quiet... The use of geese provides a sufficient level of security in the institution,” he said.
