A fisherman caught a strange creature and thought it was a living coral
The boundless depths of the ocean are filled with a variety of unusual creatures of Mother Nature, from the cockatoo squid to the slow but long-lived arctic sharks.
And so meet our guest, whose name is brittle star or as scientists call him Ophiuroidea. Ophiura, or as it is also called the snaketail from the Greek word Ophiura, which means snake tail, is an animal from the phylum of echinoderms. Outwardly they resemble starfish, but unlike the latter they have longer rays, which are sometimes called “arms”.
The number of rays or, as you remember, arms depends on the specific species, but in most cases there are 5 or 10 rays. Today there are more than 2000 different species, some of which can reach 0.7 m in length. In most species, the rays can only move in a horizontal position since they consist of vertebrae, and can twist towards the body.
