The president of a Turkish football club attacked a referee

After the incident, all matches of the Turkish championship were suspended indefinitely.

Incredible passions are raging in Turkish football. Yesterday, after the end of the 15th round of the Turkish championship, in which the Rizespor and Ankaragucu clubs met, the latter's president, Faruk Koca, ran onto the field, accompanied by several people, and hit the chief referee Halil Meler in the face with his fist. He fell onto the lawn, after which Kodzhi's accompanying men kicked him several more times in the head.

The scandal, as you might guess, turned out to be incredibly loud. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) immediately issued an official statement announcing the postponement of matches in all leagues for an indefinite period.

“We strongly condemn the inhumane and cowardly attack on a FIFA-licensed match referee. We are monitoring his health and wish him a speedy recovery.

This heinous attack was carried out not only against the referee, but against all participants in Turkish football. By decision of the board of directors, matches in all leagues have been postponed indefinitely,” TFF said in an official statement.

The moment of attack on the judge

Faruk Koca and many of his players felt that the judge unfairly judged Ankaragucu. In the first half, the referee canceled the goal of striker Ali Sow, the rights to which, by the way, belong to FC Rostov. And at the beginning of the second he sent him off the field completely. At the end of the meeting, Khalil Meler added time to the second half, thanks to which Rizespor player Adolfo Gaich, on loan from CSKA Moscow, equalized the score. The meeting between the teams ended in a draw - 1:1.

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ali Erlikaya, said that two people were detained after the incident, and the president of Ankaragucu is still in the hospital for unknown reasons (hid in a house).

“Faruk Koca is being treated in a hospital under the supervision of our security forces. After treatment, detention procedures will be carried out. According to the instructions of the state prosecutor’s office in the west of Ankara, K.C. and S.S., who participated in the attack on the judge, were detained,” said the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs .
