Indian woman sets a world record for hair length (3 photos + 1 video)
A 46-year-old Indian woman named Smita Srivastava set a world record for the longest hair among living people. The woman has not had her hair cut since she was 14 years old.
Srivastava's record is 236.22 cm. The record holder was inspired to grow her hair by her mother, to whose genes she attributes such healthy growth. In addition, the woman imitated the long hairstyles of Indian actresses of the 1980s.
“In Indian culture, goddesses traditionally had very long hair. In our society, cutting your hair short is considered bad manners, so women grow it long. Long hair emphasizes female beauty,” the Book of Records website quotes Smita.
However, caring for a two-meter hairstyle takes a lot of time. Smita usually washes her hair twice a week, and the entire process, including washing, drying, detangling and styling, takes about three hours. She spends 30-45 minutes just washing, then towel drying her hair and detangling it with her hands, which usually takes two hours.
However, after achieving the record, the Indian woman is not going to cut her hair. “I will take care of my hair for as long as I can. I won’t cut it because my life is in my hair,” Srivastava added.
