In China, they created a clone of a cat using only their own equipment (3 photos)
For many years, Chinese scientists have been studying the possibility of cloning pets. Three years ago, they successfully obtained offspring by cloning somatic cells from cats. But most of the equipment and reagents were purchased abroad.
Having decided that this would not work, and that the supply of the necessary reagents and materials could stop at any moment, scientists began to develop their own analogues of equipment and materials. And to their credit, they succeeded. This fall, a team of scientists from Qingdao Agricultural University successfully cloned 20 Jiaozhou Lich pigs. Well, then we turned to cats, the fact is that cloning somatic cells of cats requires higher requirements for equipment, reagents and consumables, as well as more advanced operations.
The experiment was successful and a kitten was born, weighing 141 g. He was born naturally from a surrogate mother after 69 days of pregnancy.
The question is, what is the point of cloning cats if they themselves reproduce quite well? But it turns out that the Chinese, whose pets have died, are willing to pay decent money to “resurrect” their pets. It is expected that cloning a cat on the market will cost 250 thousand yuan (about 20 thousand dollars), and a dog - 380 thousand yuan (about 30 thousand dollars).
