In Poland, a bison was hit and killed by a truck near the border with Belarus - this is how its relative behaved.
In a Polish village near Belovezhskaya Pushcha, a military truck hit and killed a bison. Local residents are indignant, but what was most surprising was the behavior of another bison: he stood mournfully next to his fallen relative and refused to leave even after the lifeless carcass was loaded onto a tractor to be taken away. The story, along with photos and videos, was widely circulated across Polish media and social networks.
It all happened around 7.30 am on Sunday, November 12, in the village of Stare Masevo on the very border with the Polish part of Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Two bison were walking right in the center of the village, and one of them was hit by a military truck. The animal died.
The second bison - according to local residents, this is a five-year-old male named Poradek - did not run away, but remained with his dead comrade.
“He walked around him, poked him with his nose, sniffed him to bring him to his senses. Heart is breaking. These are our residents,” said village resident Julita Tochiska, who took a photo from the scene.
Poradek did not leave his friend even after employees of the Bialowieza National Park arrived and loaded the carcass onto a tractor. The young bison continued to stretch its muzzle towards its relative - either saying goodbye, or hoping that he would come to his senses.
Meanwhile, people are trying to understand how such an incident became possible. The truck driver claims that he was driving at a speed of 40 km per hour, and the bison suddenly entered the road.
However, local residents believe that the speed of the car was much higher, and the driver could not fail to notice the bison on a completely straight road, which was not blocked by anything.
— It was 7.30 in the morning - it was no longer dark. Visibility was good, without rain or fog. The bison is not a dachshund that cannot be seen from afar. This is a huge animal. If the driver had driven normally, this would not have happened,” said one of the eyewitnesses.
