A selection of interesting horror films in which the main villains are "inanimate" objects (10 photos)

Horror screenwriters rarely receive prestigious awards. But this genre does not constrain their imagination in any way. In a horror film, anything can play the role of a “monster.” Even a chair. Hmm... damn chair, of course. So if you are a little tired of monsters, demons, ghosts and maniacs, then keep a selection of interesting horror films in which the main villains are “inanimate” objects.

Sand (USA, 2015)

Who is the killer: sand

A get-together of young people in the most seemingly enviable place turns into a game of “sand is lava,” during which the heroes get into trouble. A particularly striking feature of the film are the extremely low-budget special effects.

On His Deathbed: The Cannibal Bed (USA, 1977)

Who is the killer: bed

The film consists of four short stories, in each of which the heroes encounter an ominous bed possessed by the devil. She devours people by both cheeks, helping herself with sheets if they suddenly resist.

For the film's creator, George Barry, this project turned out to be the only one in his film career. But at the beginning of the 2000s, “The Cannibal Bed” became popular in European video rentals and, one might say, received cult status.

Attack of the Killer Donuts (USA, 2016)

Who's the Killer: Donuts

A classic of all horror plots: a mad scientist creates a serum that resurrects the dead, and that... In this case, by coincidence, it gets into the pastry dough, which is why the donuts come to life and start killing everyone around. So what should we do now? You can’t even call the police - the officers won’t fight with their favorite food!

Crusher (1994)

Who is the killer: ironing machine

Worker deaths begin to occur at the Blue Ribbon Laundry. Is this a safety violation, or has the crusher come to life and is deliberately killing? The answer will be obvious if you know that the film is based on a short story by Stephen King (with the even less pleasant title “The Grinder”).

By the way, the film has two sequels.

Home (Japan, 1977)

Who is the killer: house

You don’t have to sit in a chair and run away from the crush, but if the whole house wants to kill you, then you have problems. Seven schoolgirls go to visit the aunt of one of them, who lives in the HOUSE. There they stumble upon many supernatural traps, from which it is impossible to escape. After all, they are already inside.

As with The Cannibal Bed, this low-budget film with deliberately unrealistic cartoon-like special effects gained cult status years later, not in Europe, but in North America.

Deerskin (2019)

Who is the killer: jacket

The main character, played by Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin (star of the film The Artist), buys a leather motorcycle jacket from an elderly man and soon begins to hear the jacket's voice, which says that it wants to be the only one in the world. Well, what to do, since the jacket asks, the hero has to take people’s jackets and bury them. Jackets. However, if a person does not agree to give his own, then neither does his.

Technically, the killer here is a man, but we can say that it is the jacket that kills everyone at the hands of the hero possessed by it.

Maximum Acceleration (1986)

Who is the killer: all the mechanisms

A little more fantasy from Stephen King, who even played a small role in this film. A comet flies past the Earth, slightly touching our planet with its tail, as a result of which all electronics fail in the most bloodthirsty way. Cars (they run over), ATMs (they call people names and don’t give you money), soda machines (they throw cans) and other equipment rebel against humanity. Especially famous in popular culture is a truck with a green goblin on the hood.

My hair wants to kill (2020)

Who is the killer: hair

The girl gets hair extensions so that her colleagues on television will treat her with more respect, but the braided curls areare endowed with their own minds. And, of course, the desire to kill.

It is this film that has the highest audience ratings in the entire selection, although they are still very low by the standards of “normal” cinema. Well, what can you do - this is the genre. Very amateurish.

Tasty Rubbish (1985)

Who is the killer: some tasty substance

Humanity discovers some previously unknown substance, which turns out to be so tasty that it changes the food industry - factories begin to be built around the world for its use in various products. Few people pay attention to the fact that this mass seems to be alive. It’s only by enslaving people in this way that the tasty thing begins to become “rubbish.” It turns out that she can kill and turn into zombies.

Killer Chair (New Zealand, 2019)

Who is the killer: chair

A comfortable soft chair, in which a man once died, ends up in a girl’s house, after which her friends begin to die mysteriously. This is because the chair is amorous and jealous - it does not intend to share its owner with anyone.

Another famous film (based on the work of a certain S. King) has a similar plot, which would fit perfectly into this collection, “Christine” (1983) - about a jealous car killer.
