First-Generation BMW X5 Fitted with V10 Engine and Manual Transmission (18 Photos)

In March 2000, BMW shocked the automotive world with a wild crossover: a newly launched E53-generation X5 fitted with a 700-hp, 6.1-liter V12 straight out of the BMW V12 LMR race car. Dubbed the X5 Le Mans, this one-off creation has spent decades captivating tuners and enthusiasts eager to build something similar. Now, more than two decades later, a unique E53 inspired by the legendary X5 LM has emerged in the garage of Kith founder Ronnie Fieg. The car made its public debut at Monterey Car Week.





While Fieg’s creation doesn’t feature a massive V12 under the hood, its powertrain choice is no less impressive. Specialists managed to squeeze a 5.0-liter V10 from an E60 BMW M5 into the engine bay. The builders are keeping the power output under wraps, but in stock form, the S85 engine puts out 507 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque. Mated to the powerplant is a six-speed manual transmission running through the original E53 all-wheel-drive system. The SUV also received a reworked suspension, upgraded performance brakes, and a full body restoration.

The interior architecture remains original, but craftsmen revamped the upholstery with premium materials and a healthy dose of Kith branding.

The silver V10 E53 is just one part of the latest chapter in the partnership between Kith and BMW. The second vehicle is a brand-new X5 xDrive40i, also customized in collaboration with Ronnie Fieg. Instead of a crazy engine swap, this one gets a re-trimmed interior, special badging, and custom wheels.
