23 lucky people who really like their work (24 photos)

Reddit user u/puffmonkey92 asked a good question: “People who don’t hate their jobs and get a decent salary, what do you do?” There were many and very different answers!

It may seem incredible to some, but it is true: some people like their way of earning their daily bread. They love their work and are happy to return to it every morning.

1.

“I work in a pet store (supplies only, no pet sales) and make $18 CAD an hour. This may not sound very “worthy”, but it is certainly better than minimum wage, and the responsibility (and therefore stress) is significantly lower compared to other areas of retail. In addition, we have a good store owner who is interested in our well-being. Annual raises, Christmas bonuses, profit sharing, pay for entire scheduled shift if shortened or canceled due to weather. Well, respect for personal time is very important. They treat me like a person, not like a robot who has no life outside of work.”

2.

“I work as an accountant in a bank. Good pay, great benefits, plenty of time off and all the holidays.

It's not a particularly exciting, rewarding or interesting job, but it gives me the confidence and freedom to make my life as exciting, rewarding and interesting as possible."

3.

“I work as a housekeeper at a motel. I like my job. It allows me to work alone, I can listen to music, and I enjoy creating order out of chaos. Besides, the money here is damn good. Because of the way our salaries are structured, I make double what I usually make in this industry.”

4.

“School janitor. $30 an hour. 40 hours a week, 12 months a year. I get a ton of great medical and dental benefits, paid vacation, paid sick leave, all local and federal holidays are paid as well.

But the main advantage is that I work alone. Once the teachers leave, I have the building to myself. I see my boss once a month, if I see him at all. I just show up, turn on my favorite podcasts, do my work and go home, and the money appears in my account twice a month. I can say 100 words per shift. It's just great."

5.

“I worked in construction laying floors for 25 years. I was always happy when the weekend was over and looked forward to the work week. My wife stayed at home and raised our children. We went on vacation 3-4 times a year. Both of my children graduated from college. It’s so nice to work with your hands every day and create something beautiful in your home that will last for many years. And then get a good salary for your hard work.”

6.

“I make good money offering dog boarding services on my property. In addition to 24-hour boarding, I do dog sitting twice a week; Collecting happy dogs around town is a hell of a lot of fun. I enjoy working from home, with dogs and running my own business.”

7.

“I worked at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) for 35 years developing and executing deep space missions. Galileo, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, Stardust, Solar Probe, InSight and others. It was extremely fun work, even when it was hard. And I met a lot of very smart people.”

8.

“I work in a nursery. I care for and feed both dogs and cats. One of my daily needs, if I have time for it, is to play with my dog/cat or puppy/kitten. This is called "behavioral enrichment." This helps prepare the animals for life outside the shelter. It's trueit doesn’t look like work.”

9.

"I'm electric. It's hard work most of the time, but it's rewarding when everything lights up and works as it should. It’s nice to know that my work will serve many years later, and to see how customers admire the new lamps is also a pleasant feeling.”

10.

“I'm an air traffic controller. Last year I made about 120 thousand dollars including overtime. Staffing sucks. Vacations are also a problem. Lots of overtime. But I still love my job. 10 years of experience, 13 years until retirement. Forced retirement after 19 years.”

eleven.

“I am the only IT specialist in the family business. They don't know anything about computers, so as long as everything works smoothly, no one bothers me. I only spend about 45 minutes doing actual work a week.”

12.

“I work in a pathology lab at a hospital. I process blood and biopsy samples that go onto microscope slides for pathologists to read. I love it! I feel like I'm helping people even though I never meet them and they have no idea who I am."

13.

“I work as a librarian, and part of my job is to organize and conduct workshops for children and teenagers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). So I have to tinker with 3D printers, laser cutters and other cool things. Along the way, I also do graphic design and create websites since my previous job was in web development.

My job is different every day, and since I work in a government agency, the benefits are very good. The only downside is the salary, but I'm happy to earn a little less so I can do creative work where I can do whatever I want."

14.

“I'm a plumber. I'm very in demand, so I can work as many hours as I want for the salary I want, more or less. There’s a lot of independence and I can spend all day tinkering with things and fixing them.”

15.

“I am a statistician and work for a government agency. I really enjoy the fact that I don’t have to interact with a lot of people.”

16.

“I'm an entomologist. I'm just here for the insects. It's about $65k a year and I live in a not very expensive area. There’s enough money to live on if you combine it with my fiancé’s income.”

17.

“I'm a farmer. In the winter I can be in knee-deep snow with numb fingers and toes fixing a fence, and in the summer I can be working on an irrigation system in the wild heat. I never feel like I'm really working. Life is like an open-world RPG with somewhat vague deadlines to meet throughout the year. The hardest part is keeping yourself motivated to keep up. We start planting in mid-April, but we've been working on the planter for most of this week and it should be ready to go tomorrow. I could sleep until noon every day if I wanted, but the seasons change..."

18.

“UX/UI designer. I develop software. Not the most exciting job, but I enjoy solving problems and I can work remotely. I make $185,000 a year."

19.

"Technical illustrator. I love working with 3D models and illustrating. I work from home half the time and at any time convenient for me. My boss trusts me to get my job done, so I rarely see him. Since I started working 2 years ago, I have paid off all my debts and even sent my parents some money for everything they have done for me.”

20.

“I work as a nanny and teacher. Currently, one family pays $26 per hour for 12 hours per week. In another family I make $18 an hour and look after the children there 24 hours a week. Another family pays $20 an hour for me to pick up/drop off their child every day. I live in California, where the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, so I make a pretty decent income. The only downside is crazy kids and even crazier parents.”

21.

“I work as a bartender at a brewery and love my job. I've been working with the same team for the last two years, only working two days a week and making about $1,500-$2,000 once a week."

22.

“I'm a massage therapist, I make about $70 an hour. I work 2.5 days a week and bring home about 950 bucks. The atmosphere at work is great, the clients are wonderful, I love my colleagues.”

23.

“I work as a primary school teacher. My job seems very important to me, my children make me laugh every day, I get an above-average salary, and that’s more than enough for me.”
