A tense standoff between the age-old rivals a few months ago was captured by a tourist in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

The lionesses tried to catch a hyena cub that had strayed from the pack. The adults stood up for their little fellow tribesman and attacked one of the predators.

A young lion saved his sisters from attacks by a pack of hyenas and prevented bloodshed in front of wildlife lovers.
