The photographer showed life in a remote corner of Peru (40 photos)
Lithuanian photographer Mykolas Djuodel went to a corner of the world where tourists frequent—the north of the South American country of Peru—to look at local life. There, on the banks of the Amazon, there is a special rhythm of life, which is “dictated by the ebb and flow of the river.” Let's go on a mini-trip with a photographer!
The photographer's journey began in the Peruvian port of La Boca in the city of Yurimaguas. There Juodel boarded a cargo ship, on which he spent three days. Such ships travel from Yurimaguas to remote communities in the Amazon.
“Peru has always attracted me. I always wanted to visit the real Amazon jungle and see the longest river in the world. But commercial tours and retreats did not interest me - I wanted to immerse myself in these places on my own. So when I found out that cargo ships sailed along the Amazon, which transport local residents along with the cargo - I realized what I was looking for,” writes the photographer.

The cargo ships "Eduardo 7" depart from the port of Yurimaguas every few days: there is no exact schedule, it all depends on how quickly the ship is loaded. They mainly transport livestock, birds, various goods, as well as local residents who want to get to a neighboring community or city. In total, the 700-kilometer journey on Eduardo 7 took 52 hours. During the journey, the boat makes several stops near small villages. The final destination is the city of Iquitos.

During the trip, the photographer took colorful photographs of the daily life of local residents. He visited several villages and towns along the Amazon.
"Some of the stops were long enough to have time to walk around and see the life of the Amazonian villages that live only thanks to these cargo ships. Several villages were large with a couple of streets, and others had shops with local products, snacks, and even wine!" - writes the photographer.
