An unbreakable bond: Kate Hudson and her mother Goldie Hawn (8 photos)

4 October 2023

Goldie Hawn is a legendary American actress, producer and singer. Her daughter, Kate Hudson, followed in her mother's footsteps. Kate's father, musician Bill Hudson, did not take an active part in her life. Since 1983, her mother's long-term partner, Kurt Russell, began to take care of Kate. Despite such famous parents, Hudson achieved success in Hollywood on her own. So, let's remember the best works of two talented actresses.

"Private Benjamin" (1980)

"Private Benjamin" is a comedy directed by Howard Ziff and starring Goldie Hawn. In the story, the spoiled and rich Judy Benjamin ends up in the army after her husband dies on her wedding night. The girl has a hard time at first, but she adapts to army life and becomes a respected member of her unit. The film received critical acclaim, and Hawn's charming performance was praised. For this role, she was nominated for her second Academy Award after winning in 1969 for Cactus Flower.

"Overboard" (1987)

Garry Marshall's romantic comedy tells the story of arrogant billionaire Joanna Staton, who falls overboard on a yacht and loses her memory. The woman is saved by carpenter Dean (Kurt Russell), who convinces her that she is his wife and mother of four restless children. The new life teaches Joanna humility and love for others.

This is the third film where Hawn and Russell played together. The touching and funny picture is considered a true classic and has not lost its relevance for several decades.

"Death Becomes Her" (1992)

A dark comedy by Robert Zemeckis about two aging Hollywood rivals, Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) and Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn), who seek to regain their youth and beauty with the help of a magic potion. Having become immortal and retaining their youth, the women continue to quarrel, leading to hilarious and increasingly frightening conflicts. Bruce Willis also starred in the film, playing Madeline's husband.

"Almost Famous" (2000)

Her role in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous made Hudson famous and earned her an Oscar nomination. Kate played free-spirited Penny Lane, who takes a young journalist under her wing and shows him the world of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Hudson's performance received critical acclaim and cemented her status as a rising star.

"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" (2003)

A romantic comedy about journalist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) and her quest to write an article on "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." On her way, she meets Ben Barry (Matthew McConaughey), who made a contract bet with his boss that he could make any girl fall in love with him.

The film became a real hit, and also marked the beginning of the successful tandem of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. They subsequently starred together in Fool's Gold.

"Knives Out: Glass Onion" (2022)

The critically acclaimed sequel to Rian Johnson's Knives Out features an intriguing plot and a stellar cast. A billionaire invites friends to his estate and plays a murder mystery game. The plot is full of intricacies and twists that keep viewers guessing until the very end. As always, Johnson made the right choice with the actors, including Kate Hudson, Daniel Craig, Edward Norton.

Why Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn have never acted together

The careers of mother and daughter are similar in many ways: they embodied very different images. In addition, Goldie and Kate went beyond the hackneyed Hollywood role of a pretty blonde. Considering their skills, audiences would be happy to see them together on screen. However, in 2017, Hawn rejected this possibility. In a conversation with the LA Times, she said the following: "We would love to. But there were no worthwhile offers. And I will tell you one more thing: mother and daughter, or son, or whoever - sometimes such duets do not work. We are good know separately and have a lot of expectations.”
