Southern China hit by worst flood in 140 years
The record for precipitation since 1884 has already been broken.
Yesterday alone, Hong Kong received 158.1 millimeters of rain. Rescue teams use rafts for transportation. Air and rail services are also suspended. Authorities said they had received at least 20 reports of landslides. The Hong Kong Hospital Authority reported that as of noon on the 8th, at least 110 people had been injured and taken to hospital, with 4 in serious condition.
The metropolis of Shenzhen is also going under water. Local media reported that rainfall exceeded four historical extremes since weather records began in Shenzhen in 1952. The average rainfall in Shenzhen was 202.8 mm, and the maximum cumulative rainfall was 469.0 mm (Donghu Street, Luohu District).
The streets turned into raging rivers, hundreds of cars simply drowned. Entering the metro is simply dangerous and pointless, it is practically paralyzed.
Deaths and injuries have already been reported, tens of millions of residents have been forced to take refuge in shelters, and hundreds of thousands more have been evacuated.
Landslides began to occur.
The situation could worsen further - the release of water from the Shenzhen reservoir could trigger floods in the northern regions of Hong Kong.
