Researchers react to first-ever photographs of black-necked pheasant pigeon

In September 2022, an expedition of scientists from the Cornell University Ornithology Laboratory was able to confirm the existence of a subspecies of the black-necked pheasant pigeon, which was considered extinct (the last time it was observed 140 years ago). The pheasant was filmed and photographed in Papua New Guinea on Fergusson Island - on the slopes of Mount Kilkerran, overgrown with dense forest.
