So, in the first photo, which dates from 1898, on Midland Beach in New York, we are met by a swimming instructor and his confused student.
Please note that only the face and hands of the girl are open. And then - to the elbows. Here, of course, everyone thought about modern bikinis, Yes? But once upon a time it was so strict.
In the next photo from 1905, a woman is "bathing" with her children. She and at all in a dress and a hat just wanders in shallow water, but even girls 5-7 years with her in almost completely closed bathing suits.

This is a fairly well-known photo on the Internet, but I took a whole selection of historical shots where girls are either checked representatives of the authorities for compliance with moral standards, or are already receiving fine, in his telegram channel "Photo Chronicles of the Past". But before the invention of the bikini and its mass introduction into fashion has not yet reached. Here you are. By today's standards, it looks more like a mini dress. But now fast forward in another 7 years to Italy on the beach in Rimini and on the next photo we will see how the senior policeman issues a fine to a woman for wearing ... a bikini.
The picture is also famous, I talked about it and in general about the appearance of separate bikinis in detail at the link at the bottom of the page.
I understand that men are now frankly stuck on photo above, so let's change the subject a bit. A little bit of racism beach in Florida in 1964, I think they can distract you from contemplation of this luxurious waist.
It's a white beach that protesters broke into black, so the whites don't let them swim in their, you know, sea. African Americans are caught and forcibly dragged ashore.

The next frame, in my opinion, is simply incomparable. On him McManus filmed a single picket of a puritanical girl against too frank bathing suits of other vacationers.
