Rare Porsche 930 Turbo was stolen from the museum, but could be found (3 photos)
The car was deliberately stolen from the museum, and then registered as a private individual using forged documents. But interesting here is how the theft was committed. 
Vintage turbocharged 911s from 1975-1989, known as the Porsche 930 Turbo, are coveted objects among admirers of the brand, and the cost of well-preserved specimens is now up to a quarter of a million dollars or more.
It is unlikely that the 36-year-old American Daniel Boyce was original in his thoughts when in the summer of 2023 he decided to steal the one he liked 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo from the Sarasota Classic Car Museum. Rather, his perseverance in achieving a given goal and certain thoughtful action.
To gain access to the desired car parked in exposition of a building closed to visitors, the kidnapper had to move seven cars parked around. The keys to the 930 lay on driver's mat, which facilitated theft. Boyce did everything else it’s neat that the patrolmen who arrived at the alarm call only from the second attempts guessed that the theft had been committed.
The stolen car flashed on CCTV cameras, and then disappeared without a trace. Until the owner of the museum received tip that the metallic brown that looked like the missing Porsche was seen in one of the warehouses, after which the police intervened.
It turned out that shortly before the kidnapping, Daniel Boyce registered a Porsche 930 Turbo using the VIN of another 911 that was broken up 23 years ago and sold to a California landfill. Study the contents of the suspect's mobile phone gave the investigation additional evidence - photographs of a car similar to the stolen one, and also images of the access code and storage bin number, which led policemen to the stolen sports car.
We can assume that the history of the museum Porsche 930 Turbo ended successfully. But this does not always happen, much more often stolen collectible cars disappear without any hope of their return.
