They allowed the girl to be tortured for hours and remained at large - the court in Kemerovo gave suspended sentences to five police officers who ignored 7 calls asking for help. As a result, in 2020 23-year-old Vera Pekhteleva was brutally murdered. Under the article on negligence employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were threatened with up to 5 years in prison, but the court chose one of the most soft punishments.





According to the prosecution, three dispatchers, Maria Dunaeva, Anna Ponomareva and Kristina Yudintseva, having received a signal from neighbors about a fight in hostel, did not bring reliable information to operational orders. A police officers Mikhail Balashov and Dmitry Taritsyn did not react properly manner per message.

On the body of V. Pekhteleva, forensic experts counted 111 injuries, in including 56 stab wounds. According to investigators, her ex-boyfriend Vladislav Kanyus, with whom she decided to leave, tortured the girl on for over three hours.

Vera tried to escape from the apartment, which became fatal trap. Neighbors crowded at the door heard the girl thrashing about iron door, unsuccessfully trying to open it. And Kanyus dragged his victim back, continuing the massacre.

Dormitory neighbors tried to break down the door and called the police. They were ignored in the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to transcripts conversations between employees, the shift supervisor, Major M. Balashov, allegedly did not found cars to send to help.

“That's it, he is already smoking his last cigarette and says: “I figuratively." I, he says, do not have a single crew, I don’t know, let says they kill” (M. Dunaeva, policewoman).



Moreover, the operators of the duty unit during the calls heard the screams of the victim.

“At 5:28, an hour before the death of Vera (when it was still possible to catch save her), Dunaeva, laughing, said on the phone what to send to a call from someone, that “there are already 15 people breaking into the apartment”, that “a woman” still "screams with foolishness."

V. Kanius, accused of murdering a girl, was sentenced to 17 years in a colony, but signed up as a mercenary and left to fight in Ukraine. The victim's relatives were shocked by this.

According to the court decision, the Ministry of Internal Affairs must pay the family of the murdered girls compensation of 22 thousand dollars. Two officers were fired, three operator - temporarily suspended, but in two years they will all be able to work for the police.
