Mexican Navy intercepts submarine with 3.5 tons of cocaine
For the Mexican authorities, this is a major success.
The Mexican Navy detained a submarine (submersible boat) in the Pacific Ocean with a large consignment of cocaine. It is noted that this is the first such large vessel that was detained by Mexico under the current administration. Usually they were intercepted by the Americans.
It is noted that the boat has a length of 26 meters, two internal engines, a speed of 8 knots and a cruising range of 20 days. Inside, in addition to 3.5 tons of cocaine, there was a crew of 5 people.
According to the press service of the Mexican Navy, the submarine belonging to the drug cartel was followed by planes and ships. It was intercepted 560 miles from the Mexican city of La Paz.
The success of the mission was achieved thanks to the training of naval personnel, they had to operate in conditions of strong winds and waves on the high seas
In 2023, more than 21 tons of cocaine were seized on the water alone and 121 people were detained for drug trafficking, according to the Navy.
