Myanmar police carry out public burning of huge parties drugs for a total of $446 million. The event took place in the framework of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking drugs.

The burning took place at a landfill near the city of Yangon.

All drugs, according to local media, were seized in during the year. And among them, in addition to heroin and marijuana, 172 tons of pure methamphetamine and 1 billion tablets based on it.

Earlier, UN experts warned the Myanmar authorities about increasing production of illegal substances in the country - in particular, opium, heroin and methamphetamine.

Myanmar has a long history of drug production, associated with political and economic instability caused by decades of armed conflict. The country is large producer and exporter of methamphetamine and the second largest producer of opium and heroin in the world after Afghanistan.



American analyst David Matheson believes that public burning a mountain of drugs is an attempt by the Myanmar authorities to show that they are actively fighting both the production and distribution prohibited substances.
