Garden decoration turned out to be a rare gunpowder weapon (4 photos)
A man bought a garden decoration at a flea market, which turned out to be a hundreds of years old bronze cannon.
Often people use old things without even suspecting that, thanks to a fortunate combination of circumstances, they fell into the hands of real hidden treasures. A couple of weeks ago, a resident of Hertfordshire (England) purchased flea market garden decoration that turned out to be a 600-year-old bronze gun - a very rare gunpowder weapon.
It is not known how the cannon came to its original owner, but he decided that it would look great on his lawn. Fortunately, the next owner of antique weapons carefully examined it, suggested that it might be valuable, and turned out to be right.
The British bought the cannon for only $20, but Hansons Auctioneers experts appreciated her two thousand pounds.
“This is an amazing find. Heavy cast cannon with three rings - a type of weapon that was widely used in China with thirteenth century, and then hit the battlefields in Europe. Perhaps she even owned by some knight. For more than 20 years of work in antique business, I have never seen anything like it,” said auctioneer Charles Hanson.
On June 15, the unique find was sold at Hansons Auctioneers.
