Geneta - a strange mixture of cat, fox and lemur

5 April 2023

What happens if you mix a cat, a fox and a lemur? That's right, it will turn out "genet". No, this is not a figment of someone's imagination and a non-fictional word. This is a genus of predatory mammals from the viverrid family, which mainly live in the savannas and tropical forests of Africa. The appearance of these animals is really puzzling. There are 15 types of genet in total, so it can be easy to get confused. According to the habits of the genet, it resembles ferrets. It feeds on small animals, birds and their eggs, as well as invertebrates. Hunts at night. But despite its exotic appearance, the geneta is perfectly tamed. In Africa, they are kept at home to exterminate rats and mice. And in medieval Europe, genets were pets, but not for long. Soon, in this capacity, they were quickly supplanted by cats.
