Bus with forward cab located on the second floor, created for the film in 1935 (7 photos + 1 video)
This movie bus has always attracted attention wherever it goes. appeared. The roof had an unconventional shape and ended with a mighty tail fin. Not only the back end attracted attention, but also the front was different from what was usually seen.
This bus with an incredible design looks like it came off pages of futuristic comics popular in the 60s in the USA. He resembles an airship gondola rather than a road vehicle. And the most interesting thing is that he existed in reality. True, in a single copy.
I am sure that this device, which does not really have a name, would make a splash at any auto show. But it was not created for the mass production, but to participate in the filming of the film. Made in 1935 by commissioned by Paramount Film Company.
Unfortunately, I could not find exact information about what kind of truck this amazing bus was built. I can just assume that it could be a Chevrolet truck, modified by Truckstell.
At that time, this company provided such services as retrofitting trucks with a third bridge, and this could be not only stationary "sloth", but also a full-fledged, leading axle.
The engine is located in front. It turned out that the motor was under driver's cab. Or felling, here I don’t even know how it would be more appropriate. The driver's seat rises above the entire bus, it is, as it were, a little brought forward. Obviously, the front and side visibility here was beautiful, but about the back is not entirely clear.
The front bumper is moved far forward, located at the level of the cab driver towering over him. Two headlights are mounted on the bumper. In some ways, this design resembles the eyes of a giant snail.
The cabin is designed for 36 passenger seats. There was a bar in the salon with bartender, a drinking water fountain and even a small piano, but there was no bathroom, although in those days this option was already met on some American buses.
No less spectacular was the stern of the bus. Her tail rises above her stylized as an airplane. To me he's still the tail fin of a whale reminds. The inscription "Jack Conrads Band" was attached on top, at night the letters were highlighted.
The last mention of this unique device, which without no doubt would have caused a sensation even today, dated 1938. What was the further fate of the bus - it is not known, for sure it was forever lost. Well, at least he remained on the films.
Here is a fragment where this bus is captured.
