In Switzerland, a 95-year-old pensioner told how she recovered from coronavirus (2 photos)
We know Switzerland as the most neutral country in the world, which is not affected by other people's problems. But the Swiss were unable to ignore the coronavirus. The country is in ninth place in the number of patients with COVID-19 - 15,922 patients. Among them was 95-year-old pensioner Gertrude Fatton from the small town of Le Locle, writes the Newshub portal. Despite her advanced age, she was able to overcome the disease. She also told how her illness progressed.
All 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren of Gertrude could not visit their beloved (great-)grandmother. She was home for a full week before complications began. As soon as her breathing worsened, she was taken by ambulance to a hospital in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
“The doctors took a blood test from me and measured my blood pressure. They injected me with antibiotics through my veins three times a day. It was very difficult, but generally tolerable. I was not afraid of dying,” she says.
Gertrude was in the intensive care unit for a week. According to the pensioner, she was able to overcome the disease thanks to antibiotics and the antimalarial drug chloroquine.
“I remember the doctors called me and said that her blood oxygen level had started to drop. The doctors only had 24 hours to save her. I was very, very afraid that that night I would say goodbye to her,” said the pensioner’s daughter Jacqueline .
Already on the third day of therapy, according to Jacqueline, the oxygen level in Gertrude’s blood returned to normal.
“I could talk to her on the phone twice a day. When I noticed that she began to cough less when talking to me, I realized that we had defeated the disease,” said the Swiss woman.
