A man won a race with his wife on his neck. Many will envy his award
A married couple from Lithuania won the international wife-carrying championship. The competition can hardly be called Olympic, but the men have to overcome impressive obstacles. They have to jump over logs and wade through a pool, and all this with their beloved wife on their neck.
The championship was held in Finland in a small town 480 km north of Helsinki. Every year, thousands of spectators from all over Europe come to the competition. The winners of the 24th race were Vytautas Kirkliauskas and his wife Neringa Kirkliaiskiene, ABC News reports. The couple covered 253.5 meters in 1 minute 6.72 seconds.
"After the second obstacle, I thought I wouldn't succeed, but this is a great result. My wife, she is the best," said Vytautas.
By the way, such an interesting competition was held back in the 19th century. According to legend, the famous Finnish robber Ronkainen came up with a special test for those who wanted to join his gang. To prove their courage and strength, the contenders had to run the same obstacle course, carrying a sack of grain or a live pig.
Today, the rules have been slightly changed and men have wives instead of sacks around their necks. But the reward remains the same as in the 19th century. The winner receives beer in a volume equal to the weight of his wife! To take part in the championship, you must be officially married, your wife must be over 17 years old, and her weight must be more than 49 kg.
