70 thousand dollars and 6 years for fishing with an electric rod
Fishermen in the Bykhovsky district could face six years in prison, reports the Belarus 1 TV channel. The poachers were fishing using a prohibited electrofishing unit. In total, the violators found 77 kilograms of river and lake fish, including more than 100 pikes and over five thousand roaches.
Electric fishing is one of the most cruel fishing methods. The damage caused to nature is estimated at 70 thousand dollars. In addition, poachers will be prosecuted.
— At the moment, the detainees are under arrest. These are unemployed people, age 55–56 years. A rubber boat, an electrofishing installation, illegally caught fish, as well as a UAZ-Hunter car were seized,” said Sergei Radkevich, deputy head of the Mogilev Regional Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Plants.
