Canadian figure skater rescued a dog that was being raised for slaughter in PyeongChang (9 photos)
Megan Duhamel, a Canadian figure skater paired with Eric Radford, not only managed to win gold in the team tournament of the Pyeongchang Olympics, but also saved a dog again. Last year, during a visit to South Korea, the athlete was shocked by the local demand for dog meat dishes, and she took the puppy straight from the farm. And now history is repeating itself: the skater is going to take home another pet.

Dog meat dishes are a delicacy in South Korea
The most popular dog meat dish is posinthan soup (longevity soup).
Authorities have asked local restaurants to remove dog dishes during the Olympic Games so as not to shock foreigners.
Koreans consume more than 2 million dogs annually
Despite requests from the authorities, 10 restaurants in PyeongChang still serve dog meat dishes to guests.
Megan Duhamel supports the campaign against dog farms in South Korea and is ready to help animal activists from Human Society International. The figure skater hopes that athletes will follow her example.
