What happened to the Russian MTV presenters (7 photos)
The faces of Russian MTV were unknown guys and girls who had bright charisma, an excellent sense of humor and a desire to create something truly interesting. Now these presenters can rightfully be called professionals in their field.
Alexander Anatolyevich Belonogov (1998-2013)
Without ever becoming a famous VJ on the first commercial music channel "Biz-Tv", Alexander Anatolyevich Belonogov became famous thanks to the Russian "MTV". Every day from Monday to Friday, young people watched the “News Block” program, where he revealed all the secrets of Russian and world show business, shared information from concerts and did exclusive interviews with stars. “You will be the first to know! Only on MTV,” the audience listened to these words of Alexander Anatolyevich Belonogov like a mantra.
At the end of the 2000s, Alexander Anatolyevich remained almost the only presenter from the first lineup of MTV Russia VJs who continued to work on the channel. He took part in many musical projects. Now the former MTV star works as a radio host, plays in nightclubs as a DJ and teaches creative disciplines at the Ostankino school.
Yana Churikova (1998-2002)
Yana is from the first cast of presenters at MTV Russia. She worked on the TV channel for almost five years, almost five years of her life, most remembered as the host of the super-popular program “12 Evil Spectators”, in which 12 participants watched the clip and gave an objective assessment, and a “star” was also invited to each episode as a defender. At the end, the best and worst clips of the program were chosen, and the most “evil” participant moved on to the next program.
In 2002, when most of the old presenters left MTV, Churikova made a breakthrough in her career and moved to Channel One. There she had the opportunity to host “Good Morning”, “Star Factory”, “Golden Gramophone”, “Song History”, “Cruel Intentions” and other shows.
In 2013, fate turned out that Yane returned to MTV again, but in a completely different role - she became the director of the channel.
Ivan Urgant (2001-2004)
Ivan Urgant's fame as a presenter began with the Russian MTV. In 2001, he was taken on as one of the co-hosts of the “Bright Morning” program. Vanya’s delight knew no bounds, but for some time he had to combine work in Moscow and his native St. Petersburg. As a result, the young man’s entire modest salary was spent on traveling between the two capitals. However, this did not stop Urgant from showing his signature sparkling humor in the morning program. The channel's audience remembers his character Pavel Zloba (an allusion to Pavel Globa) in the program “Bodroe Utro”. Having finally gained a foothold in the program, Urgant began to host it independently in pair with Beata Ardeeva, but their broadcasts, compared to the main couple of the program Anton Komolov - Olga Shelest, were not successful, and sometimes simply outright irritated the MTV audience. In addition, Urgant - Shelest and Urgant - Komolov were also broadcast several times.
In the “Big Cinema” program, Ivan talked about the latest in world and Russian cinema.
On July 1, 2002, the new management of MTV Russia made an attempt to make some kind of mixture of popular closed programs - “Caprice”, “Bright Morning”, “Weekend Caprice” and others, and this is how “Total Show” appeared. The program was broadcast live, hosted by Ivan Urgant. The program was a humorous game show, broadcast simultaneously with switches from the studio and from the street, where hosts Evgeny Rybov (Big Zhenya) and Timur Rodriguez (Kerimov) held practical jokes and first conversations with celebrity guests. Despite its enormous scale (several studios of closed programs were used for filming), the program was not particularly popular, since after the closure of their favorite programs, the viewer reacted coolly to the “Total Show”.
Work at MTV opened the way for Ivan to central television. After leaving MTV, without attracting general attention, Urgant worked for some time in the People’s Artist project, where his co-host was Fekla Tolstaya. Then he helped his father Andrei Urgant in the show “Big Premiere”. Gradually, participating in various projects, Ivan became one of the faces of Channel One. He replaced Andrei Makarevich in “Smak”, together with Vladimir Pozner he shot a series of documentaries “One-Storey America”. The whole country laughed at the ProjectorParisHilton program, where Urgant participated with Sergei Svetlakov, Garik Martirosyan and Alexander Tsekalo. In 2012, Ivan launched his own show “Evening Urgant”, which airs on weekdays on First.
Tutta Larsen (1998-2008)
Tatyana Romanenko, better known as Tutta Larsen, first became known in 1996 as one of the very first presenters of music programs on the newly launched Muz-TV channel, along with Aurora, Alexander Pryanikov and Daria Subbotina.
However, real fame came to her in September 1998, when she was invited to the Russian MTV. “Caprice”, “Kiss Bang Bang”, “Adrenaline”, “Top 20”, “News Block International”, “Well Done”, “Ordinary Miracle”, “The Secret of Success” - and this is not a complete list of programs that hosted by Tutta Larsen on MTV. Radical haircuts, tattoos, grunge clothes - in the nineties, Larsen’s shocking appearance changed all ideas about what a TV presenter should look like. It is worth noting that thanks to Tutta’s interactive show, viewers were able to communicate live with many stars, including world-famous ones.
In the summer of 2008, after leaving MTV, she moved to the Zvezda TV channel, where she worked on documentary programs on patriotic topics. Tutta met her former MTV colleague Olga Shelest as a co-host on the “Girls” program, which aired on the “Russia 1” channel. In addition, Larsen could be heard several times in various radio programs. In May 2015, she launched her own channel TUTTA.TV. Being a happy mother of many children, the star is happy to give everyone useful advice on pregnancy and raising children.
Vasily Strelnikov (1998-2002)
Vasily Strelnikov began his career as a radio host in 1980, receiving a position as an English-speaking announcer at the Radio Moscow World Service. He is best known as the host of the program “According to Listener Requests,” one of the most popular programs on air, which, due to its informal approach, contrasted with other programs.
The peak of Vasily’s popularity came with his morning TV show “Weekend Caprice” on Russian MTV. “a sucker is fate”, “Smile, it annoys everyone.” These phrases became catchphrases on a par with the masterpieces of Soviet cinema. And who has ever heard “Natasha, music!” and “Loooooozzzzzz see!”, he knows that the author of these “imperishables” is Vasily Strelnikov. First he became the voice of MTV, and then he appeared on camera. The interactive shows “Weekend Caprice” and “Quiet Hour” were among the most popular on the channel. Even the craziest ideas were embodied here. Well, how could it be different if Strelnikov’s co-host was the doll Seva.
After leaving MTV, Vasily Strelnikov worked on the STS channel, REN-TV and TV3. In 2005, he created the first Russian podcast terminal, Russian Podcasting. Vasily's fans continue to listen to his broadcasts in a digital audio program called The Big Podcast. There, the broadcast star continues to freely engage in creativity in his characteristic manner.
Tatyana Gevorkyan (1998-2006)
If now on Russian screens one’s eyes run wide from the abundance of experts in the fashion world, then in the nineties the entire female half of advanced youth listened with bated breath to the advice of Tanya Gevorkyan. A tall, brown-haired woman with a model figure hosted the Stilissimo and Style Guide programs. Her elegant and at the same time ultra-fashionable image literally fascinated the girls. When “Daily Caprice” and other shows were added to Tatyana’s track record, the presenter’s fan base grew.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Gevorkyan finally plunged into the field of fashion. From 2001 to 2006, she worked as editor-in-chief of the glossy magazine Yes! Currently, Tatyana educates viewers of the Culture channel. In the “Cultural News” program she talks about the latest events in the field of art.
Anton Komolov and Olga Shelest (1998-2002)
Olga Shelest and Anton Komolov proved by their own example that friendship between a man and a woman exists. On July 5, 1999, MTV aired the interactive show “Bright Morning,” in which a duo of TV presenters formed. The younger generation greeted the new day exclusively to the sounds of this program. A great mood was guaranteed, because the jokes and endless surprises of the VJs woke up even the most avid night owls. And this was far from the only program in which stars shone.
In parallel with his activities at MTV, Anton Komolov continued to work on the radio. His track record includes such stations as “Radio Maximum”, “Silver Rain”, “Europe Plus” and others. Anton was a member of the jury in KVN. And from 2012 to the present, he has been part of the Channel One team as the host of the “I Live! with Anton Komolov" in the "Evening Urgant" program.
All these years, Komolov did not lose touch with Shelest. So, in 2007, the tandem of stars was revived. The entertainment show “Starry Evening with Anton Komolov and Olga Shelest” appeared on the Zvezda channel. Olga and Anton also hosted a daily show on Mayak radio. Shelest no longer dresses in a sporty style, preferring elegant and feminine outfits. And her voice sounds during the next broadcast of Eurovision, for which she has been a commentator for many years.
