Australia is home to some of the world's most interesting and strangest wildlife, with a huge variety of creatures. Residents and travelers of Australia can see kangaroos hopping around the streets, koalas hanging from trees, as well as deadly snakes hiding everywhere. I would like to introduce you to some unusual inhabitants of Australia.

Huge bats

Bats in Australia are frighteningly huge, in fact the largest of the species, and can weigh up to one kilogram and have a wingspan of over one and a half meters. Flying foxes exist in Australia - they are much larger than the average bat, live in flocks and are one of the most intelligent Australian animals. Flying foxes may look bloodthirsty, but they only eat fruit, flowers and nectar, sleeping during the day and feeding at night. If you encounter them, do not approach them, because... they can carry viruses that are harmful to humans.

Kangaroo

When people think of Australian animals, the first thing that comes to mind is the kangaroo!! Kangaroos can reach a height of about 5-6 feet and weigh up to 120 pounds. They have very strong hind legs, so they jump very well, and a strong tail to maintain balance. They can jump 30 feet in one quick leap! Kangaroos mainly eat grasses and other plants!

Wombats

They live in forests under bushes, this is one of the few Australian animals that can be kept indoors as a pet, or outside the apartment - they are usually not afraid of people! The common wombat weighs approximately 60 pounds, about the same as the common pig. Wombats have strong claws and legs, which they use to hide. Because they are earth-moving animals. Wombats are nocturnal animals, so they usually come out at night in search of food. They eat leaves, plants, and roots.

Crocodile living in salt water

These are the largest reptiles on Earth. Males are usually much larger than females, typically up to 14 feet long. Some even grew to 18 feet. They weigh between 1200 and 2200 pounds! They feed on other reptiles, fish, and birds - but there have been cases when they ate livestock. The life expectancy of crocodiles is 60 - 80 years.

Tasmanian devils

Found in Tasmania and along the southeast coast of Australia, the Tasmanian devil is the largest carnivore, growing up to 2 meters in length. Typically black in color, with prominent white markings on the chest, each individual has a unique marking. Tasmanian devils are nocturnal animals and eat birds, lizards, or the remains of dead animals that they come across.

Marsupial anteater

Its coloring is individual, with white stripes on the back - usually 6 or 7. Small - approximately 11 inches long with a 7 inch tail. Anteaters weigh only 1 pound. They have 52 teeth, each different in size and shape.

Dingo

A very famous Australian animal, these are wild dogs that can be found throughout Australia. Dingoes are medium in size, and usually weigh around 30 – 55 pounds. They can be sandy light, reddish-brown, as well as brown and black. Dingoes are notorious scavengers, but they regularly feed on rabbits, opossums, rodents, lizards, and sometimes even kangaroos.

Koalas

They are soft and very cute, usually gray and white in color. Koalas have very poor eyesight, but excellent hearing and sense of smell to protect themselves from predators. They use their claws to climb eucalyptus trees in search of succulent leaves on which they feed. Koalas spend most of the day sleeping. They live mainly in Australian National Parks

Kookaburra

The Kookaburra bird is one of Australia's most fascinating animals, and it is popular for making unusual sounds that are similar to human laughter. Kookaburras are typically 18 inches long. Their bodies are dark brown; their wings have beautiful gray and blue spots. These native Australian birds can be found in forests and wooded areas - in tree holes. They feed on many known pests, such as small snakes, lizards, insects, and rodents.
