Sanxia hydroelectric power station is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world (38 photos)

Previously, there was gigantomania in the USSR. Now there is no USSR. But there is China. And now everything BIGGEST is being built there!

Construction of the hydroelectric power station began in 1992, completion of construction is planned for 2010. Composition of the hydroelectric power station structures:
gravity concrete dam 2345 m long and 181 m high;
left bank dam hydroelectric power station building with 14 hydraulic units;
right bank dam hydroelectric power station building with 12 hydraulic units;
right-bank underground hydroelectric power station building with 6 hydraulic units;
two-line five-stage shipping lock;
boat lift.

The idea of building a hydroelectric power station in the Three Gorges area of the Yangtze arose back in the 1920s. However, the scale of the project delayed its implementation for a long time. Construction chronicle:
1992 - start of work on the construction of a hydroelectric power station
May 14, 1994 - construction of the dam begins
1997 - laying of the first concrete
November 8, 1997 - Yangtze closure
2003 - launch of the first hydraulic units
September 2005 - commissioning of the left building of the hydroelectric power station. The station reached a capacity of 9800 MW.
May 20, 2006 - construction of the dam was completed
2007-2008 is the planned commissioning date for the right dam building of the hydroelectric power station. The station will reach a capacity of 18,200 MW with a generation of 84.7 billion kWh.
2010 is the planned date for commissioning of the right-bank underground hydroelectric power station building. Completion of construction.

In some of the photographs - a place downstream - the city is being dismantled for material for a dam (2002) since this place will flood anyway.

On April 18, 1995, the first stage of construction of a hydroelectric power station began on the left bank of the dam.

On April 24, 1995, the first phase of construction of a temporary shipping lock and ship lift at the Sanxia Hydraulic Project officially began.

On December 24, 1995, the second stage of construction of a temporary shipping lock and ship lift at the Sanxia Hydraulic Project began.

On April 19, 1996, the pouring of the concrete foundation of the guide dam of the third stage as part of the construction of Sanxia began ahead of schedule.

On October 6, 1997, shipping traffic along the diversion canal officially opened.

On November 8, 1997, the damming of the Yangtze River as part of the project was successfully completed.

On December 11, 1997, the pouring of the first cubic meter of concrete for the Sanxia Dam began.

On May 1, 1998, shipping traffic through the temporary shipping lock in Sanxia was opened.

On January 25, 1999, the installation of metal reinforcement of the Sanxia Dam began.

On November 17, 1999, the installation and commissioning of concrete equipment was completed.

On September 15, 2000, construction of 22 spillway holes on the dam was completed to release water.

By December 31, 2001, within the framework of the project, 4.0638 million cubic meters of concrete had been poured during the year. Overall, within 3 years the world record for concrete pouring efficiency was broken.

On May 1, 2002, the guide dam was removed and the upstream Sanxia construction was filled with water. July 1 – in the lower reaches of the Sanxia object.

On September 27, 2002, the water level in section A in the second compartment on the left bank of the Sanxia Dam reached a height of 185 meters.

On November 6, 2002, the water shutoff along the diversion canal was successfully completed as part of construction.

On November 7, 2002, construction began on the third stage in section A. Construction of the main facility of the third stage was also started.

On December 16, 2002, pouring and rolling of concrete for the guide dam of the third stage of construction began.

On July 10, 2003, electrical units No. 2 and No. 5 on the left bank of the Sanxia were connected to the power grid and began generating electricity 20 days ahead of schedule.

On July 8, 2004, the fifth category shipping lock in two directions of Sanxia was certified and ship traffic opened through it.

On September 16, 2005, power unit No. 9 on the left bank of Sanxia connected to the power grid and began generating electricity, 14 units with a capacity of 700 thousand kW were put into operation ahead of schedule.

On October 2, 2005, the Sanxia Dam diversion outlets, which had been in operation for more than two years, were closed.

On May 20, 2006, the construction of the Sanxia project was completely completed, the height reached the designed level of 185 meters.
