Venice – a city on the water (87 photos)

Venice is a city that everyone should visit. Venice is a city where a boat, gondola, or speedboat is not a luxury, but a means of transportation. Venice is the city where Casanova once persuaded Venetian women to unbridled passion and love adventures. Venice is a city with its own unique history... In this news I would like to show Venice through the lens of LiveJournal user rawpic.

2. Perhaps Venice is known to many thanks to this particular view. View of the Grand Canal from the Rialto Bridge.

3. And this is the Rialto Bridge in person.

4. Tourists use river trams to navigate around the city. Travel on them is paid, but it is built on the basis of honest Europeans who are afraid of these alluring words: “Hare” and “Freebie”. I confess that when we were returning late in the evening from St. Mark’s Square to the bus station, we did not have a ticket for the return journey. We didn’t find any working ticket offices at the bus stop; everything was closed. We were lucky, the group of controllers who were pulling potential violators out of the crowd at the final station did not pay attention to us.

7. This is what a Venice “bus” stop looks like

8. A tram is a tram, but the true transport in Venice is gondolas

9. And the gondolas are controlled... that's right - gondoliers

10. They (gondoliers) are the Venetian elite. They can be compared, say, to the Swiss Guards from the Vatican. Being a gondolier is an honor, and just wanting to become one is not enough. This right is inherited. And until now, the number of licenses for the right to operate a gondola and provide services is limited to 425 units. Our gondolier, in addition to being an elite also had a 3G iPhone.

11. Venice also has its own “road” signs. A metal “tip” on the bow of the boat helps the gondolier evaluate the chance of sailing under the next bridge, of which there are hundreds in Venice.

12.

13. And when driving along such narrow streets, with closed turns, they use a signal emitted in their own voice. It turns out something like the Tyrolean "Ori-ori-ui".

14.

15. To whom a gondola, and to whom a home. You can sleep here too.

16. While the gondolier is sleeping, we can look at the main attractions of the gondola.

26. Each gondolier aims to stand out from the other. Some people lay embroidered carpets, some decorate with candlesticks, some with flowers.

27. This is how particularly sophisticated experiments on the gondola end.

28. If you have more requests, you can sail to Venice on your own watercraft, ranging from a sailing yacht to huge liners and ferries.

36. A tug pulls a ferry across the Venetian Gulf, with views of the Doge's Palace, the Bell Tower of San Marco, and the domes of San Marco Cathedral in the background.

37. When traveling around Europe by car, you should keep in mind that if your car is not amphibious, then the ferry is the only way to get around the island of Venice. You can only leave your car in a nearby parking lot, not far from the Venice railway station. There is not a single highway in the city.

38. Naturally, to monitor all this transport you need your own water police. Here we did not have the opportunity to communicate with the guardians of the water order, but on Lake Garda our guide was stopped. This, of course, is another story and will be discussed in future stories. In the background is the bell tower, popularly referred to as the "Venetian Leaning Tower of Pisa".

39. Entering the Grand Canal from the bay.

40. Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.

41. View from the bay of the Straw Bridge passing through the palace canal. And a little deeper and higher, you can see the “Bridge of Sighs” - along it the convicts went to prison from the courtroom in the Doge’s Palace. It was there, standing on the Straw Bridge, that relatives could say goodbye to the prisoner for the last time. During the “high season” (July-August) there are a lot of people in Venice. Sometimes it seems that all these architectural sculptures will not stand.

43. View from the bay to the Cathedral of San Marco, the Doge's Palace.

44. Access to the bay from St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace.

45. Gondola parking lot near Piazza San Marco.

46. Piazza San Marco, when you watch “Casino Royale”, pay attention, this is where some events took place towards the end of the film.

47. The main entrance to the Cathedral of San Marco. It was not possible to visit it inside, but it is worth noting that if you want to do this, you will have to leave your things in a special storage room. No phones, no cameras, no bags, backpacks are allowed inside.

54. "Restaurant geometry" in the open air. When there is live music, a cup of espresso in St. Mark's Square costs up to 25 euros...

60. Sometimes you see something like this, smile and take a photo. Wow, she's a very long-legged girl.

61. He looks 37, she is about 70. However, what “successful” man does not dream of a collection of antiques. The main thing is that there is someone and what to support.

72. Like Russians, Italians love to drive fast. They can even accelerate a gondola.

76. One cannot help but recall Venetian (Murano) glass, at least in the context of city lamps. The subject of Venetian glass as such deserves a separate long story.

Почему? Как по мне - очень даже. Очень насыщенные фотографии, хорошо передают дух города. Красиво и со вкусом снято, снято как взглядом любопытного туриста, а не рекламным фотографом.
