The airliner was en route from Antofagasta to Santiago when it was struck by the bolt. A flash lit up the cabin for a second, and a loud bang rang out. People reacted to the incident with nervous laughter.
The airline's aircraft is specifically designed to safely "dissipate" such discharges. Therefore, none of the passengers were injured, and the plane made a routine landing in Santiago.
