Jazz, ocean, and a bright yellow sports car: rare footage of Miles Davis's everyday life in Malibu (8 photos)

Japanese photographer Shigeru Uchiyama's atmospheric images, included in the photo book No Picture!, capture legendary jazz musician Miles Davis between 1981 and 1988. In addition to vibrant concert shots, the publication is unique in that it shows the musician in his familiar home environment. One of these images focuses on Davis's home on the west coast of Malibu. The building's architectural design was developed by Buff & Hensman in 1963, but due to lengthy approvals and construction, construction was not completed until two decades later. In this home, the musician poses with his striking, bright yellow Ferrari 308 GTSi.

Incidentally, owning such a car and luxury beachfront real estate often caused the artist problems. In an interview with Spin magazine, Davis openly shared the downside of his success: "Because I have a $60,000 yellow Ferrari, I'm black, and I live in a beach house in Malibu, I've been pulled over by the police three times already..."
