Cliffs on the Maas: MVRDV to build a new "wonder of the world" in Rotterdam (9 photos)
Dutch architectural firm MVRDV has won the competition to create a large-scale project called Rotterdam Rocks! This landmark new space will rise directly on the banks of the Maas River and will consist of seven giant artificial rocks housing a hotel, exhibition halls, restaurants, and a panoramic terrace overlooking the city. The project's concept directly addresses the climate crisis, and its bold, slightly off-putting, yet captivating exterior is in keeping with MVRDV's signature wild style. Incidentally, the renowned firm has also left its mark on Moscow—one of the most striking examples of contemporary metropolitan architecture is the striking Red7 residential complex on the Garden Ring. Designed in a distinctive W-shape, the building is rightfully considered one of the city's most beautiful new buildings.
