An introvert's paradise has been discovered in the Netherlands—the Loosdrecht Lakes. Peat was once dried on these thin, elongated islands, but the mines were closed, the quarries were flooded, and a whole system of lakes was formed.
Now, cozy houses with moorings and all the amenities stand there: electricity, running water, internet, delivery, and mail—everything like a regular village, but boats are used instead of cars. Water sports enthusiasts and those seeking peace and quiet from all over the country flock there.
