There are many types of chocolate in the world. In addition to dark, milk, and white, products are made with various additives: fruits, nuts, pastilles, and even salt and red pepper. Everyone can choose a treat to suit their taste, but no one guarantees that the chocolate will be made from real chocolate.

White chocolate has a unique sweetness. Many people dislike it because of its cloying taste and the lack of the slight bitterness typical of dark and milk chocolate. This is explained simply: it has very little in common with other cocoa products, essentially just the name. White chocolate has a completely different composition, and its production technology is unique.

Regular chocolate's brown color comes from its main component: cocoa beans. They are sorted, roasted, shelled, and then ground into powder. This raw material is divided into two parts. One is pressed, where cocoa butter is extracted. The other serves as the basis for the chocolate mass.

The Secret of White Chocolate

White chocolate lacks the solid component of cocoa beans. It is produced from cocoa butter, which can make up to 20 percent of the final product. This substance has neither a smell nor a distinct taste. Many different components are added to white chocolate, including sweeteners, thickeners, flavorings, whey, and spices.

Therefore, when a manufacturer writes "chocolate" on a white bar, they are, to put it mildly, exaggerating. As you already understand, you shouldn't expect anything good for your body from this product. Everything it contains is either useless or potentially harmful. So, if you have a choice, buy dark or milk chocolate, made according to all the canons of confectionery.

White chocolate has another secret, and it's also an unpleasant one. It was invented by the Swiss company Nestlé in the 1930s. It was called Milkybar white chocolate, and its advertising was everywhere.

But the new sweet wasn't developed to please consumers. White chocolate helped the company get rid of cheap and unsold cocoa butter. The cunning Swiss began selling Milkybar instead of recycling the butter as they had previously.
