A spider that sets catapult traps

A previously unknown species of spider has been discovered in Australia that constructs a catapult trap for its prey. Researchers have named it the "ballista spider."
Near an insect trail, the ballista spider strings a pheromone-laden thread that provokes an ant to attack. Once the prey bites the thread, the "catapult" launches it 30 cm into the web.
To date, this is the only known instance of a spider trap being triggered by the prey itself.
