A Museum Sinking into the Water: Zaishui Art Museum Becomes China's New Architectural Landmark (7 photos)
The unusual Zaishui Art Museum, designed by Japanese architect Junya Ishigami, has opened in the Chinese city of Suqian. The nearly kilometer-long building literally stretches along an artificial lake, creating the effect of the architecture completely merging with the natural landscape. The design's distinctive feature is the interaction between the space and water: in some areas, it penetrates the building, transforming the interior into an extension of the surrounding environment. Thanks to its panoramic views and minimalist design, the museum is already being called one of the most impressive cultural sites in the region. The complex houses exhibition spaces, promenades, and a café, and the project itself is yet another example of Ishigami's signature approach—architecture in which the boundaries between nature and building virtually disappear.
